In the past, a lot of the things that nowadays are built and urbanized, then were croplands. This indicate that the society of about a hundred years ago were very rural. From two of the places that we have chosen, one was a town full of country houses (Gurb) and the other is a tiny city surrounded by croplands and country houses. In this city every fabric was localized in a strategic place, like in the rivers o next to the roads. In the actuality, the fabrics are far from the urban centre, in industrial estates.

The actual society have evolved up to one point where we are almost not rural, and every time less. This evolution intensified recently with the estate bubble. Thanks to that we can predict that, if there isn’t a big change, everything will be urbanized. If this continue like this, we can predict that in one hundred years, the city of Vic could grow by 150%.

Another effect that will modify the society of the future is the climatic change. This will cause many train tracks to be replaced by more eco-friendly trains. The climatic change will cause that the new buildings will be designed to take full advantage of renewable energies. Although having a lot of pollution, the fabrics won’t stop growing, a lot of them will change to renewable energies, but others will continue to use oil. But thanks to the technology revolution, nobody will go t work to the fabrics, instead everybody will work in home with the internet. In the future, the localization of the factories won’t change too much, the actual industrial zone, “Mas Gali”, will increase in a considerably size and the industrial zone “Les Casasses” won’t change. The industrial zone “el Burger”, that it’s relatively new, will increase too and near that it will be a new industrial zone named “poligon de la Moda”, orientate to all the fabrics of the textile industry, like Inditex or Mango.

We can see that the first one is all fields, the second one we start seeing some houses and the present we see that there is almost no fields and they do a sports centre. The evolution is from fields to fields and roads and finally a lot of houses with some fields.

The last photo we can clearly see that it has been transformed into an industrial zone, but the other two without heads, without any signal the queen of the future of a polygon. 


In the photos we can see the evolution of Vic. This has always been a city, but we can see that it has grown its urbanization a very big range.

Here we can see the industrial zone, like the other photos, in the past everything were fields, but now everything is urbanized.

Here we can see the road c-17, a very important road. Few years ago, this road wasn’t here, and we can imagine it was difficult to get to Barcelona, since it unites with Vic and Barcelona.


These are the images were you can see Gurb before and now. Years ago, Gurb didn’t have any urbanization but through the years it has grown.


In the past there was just one industrial polygon in Vic next to the river called Adoberies.

Nowadays there are seven polygons in Vic. They’re called: Mas Gali, Mas Bigas, Mas Beuló, Polígon Les Casasses, Polígon Malloles and Polígon el Bruguer.


Formerly there was a polygon in Gurb which was called Malars, located in the north of Gurb.


We have analized the evolution of several towns and cities and we have checked that the extension of the habitat zones is increasing faster than ever. For that reason we believe that in 50 years from now Gurb’s extension will be wider. We have the same thought about Vic. If it’s growing doesn’t stop we believe that the two civilizations will become one.

Moreover, we live in an age where the climatic change is one of the most problematic effect threatening our planet. Luckily, several energies satisfy our basic necessities using natural sources, which are capable to renew and not pollute. This is the reason why the houses will be sustainables and most of the streets pedestrians. 

On the other hand, thanks to technology, cities will have a different image from now. According to the El newspaper these are some conclusions: “The storage technologies are necessary to garantie us an stable supply”. Because of that, “Endesa is working for the technologic growth to compensate the lack of prevision and the intermittence of the renewable energies”. “The energy on wheels: Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)”.

With those characteristics  that civilizations will have we imagine a new map with plenty of houses and Smart cities where technology will be present at the street.

About the growth we can imagine a future which Gurb will have a huge extension. In a consequence of that change, the fields will also change. Most of them will be populated. 

Furthermore, there will be a rise of trade. This will produce an increase about tourism. For that reason the commercial zone will be located between Vic and Gurb and the industries on the outskirts.

As a conclusion, we can predict a more sustainable and wider population.


Taking into account the differences between the past and the present, we think that future houses will have solutions to improve the climatic change. Ara Newspaper claim that house distribution, relationship between neighbourhood and its energy will not be the same as nowadays.

The living accommodations will be cheaper and will be built with light materials to be able to distribute the house with facility.  “We need homes able to use them all our live and that they answer our necessities. However, this is not possible with stiff structures.”

Talking into Santacana’s opinion, houses will have more patios, balconies and more exterior and common spaces to make people relate themselves.

Nowadays there are appliances that help with the cost which produce the energy, although there’s a problem which not everybody can’t allow themselves because of the location or the money.

The achievement of
efficiency depends on fixed elements such as the insulation of walls and
windows, the orientation of the house or the installation of domotic systems
that allow an optimal management of the consumption” says Santacana. For this
reason, there will be a change when building to isolate from the cold and hot. There
will also be solar panels.

Finally, the buildings will have roofs will be covered of plants and vegetal complements, in order to do cities more sustainable.
